I'm from Worcester in the UK and I've been a radio presenter for many years now working for various different radio stations throughout the UK and it really has been amazing!
I've had the opportunity to do so many fun things, work with some awesome people and interview a few celebrities, my favourite being James Blunt just because he's massively talented, he has brilliant come backs on twitter and he used to be in the British Army... This brings me onto something else that I’ve always been interested in... The Armed forces!
Before I got into radio, joining the armed forces was all I ever wanted to do and all I ever spoke about, I even skipped the 'University UCAS Lectures' at college because in my mind I didn't need them, I didn't need to go to university...
However, after 2 failed attempts, joining up wasn't meant to be and I did end up going to university to study Radio and Television...Thinking back, those UCAS lectures would have actually come in handy!
After finishing Uni with a Degree along with the letters BA (Hons) after my name, I carried on presenting and producing radio shows in the UK
Then in 2013 my life changed...
I got a job with BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Services) and I was over the moon because this meant that I now had the chance to continue with my love for radio and combine it with a military lifestyle.
For those that don’t know, BFBS personnel travel around the world entertaining the Armed Forces In many of the locations they're deployed.
My first posting was to the Falkland Islands, 8000 miles away from home and being such a homely person it was all a bit daunting. I was pretty nervous about the whole thing but I chose to embrace the experience and after being initially sent there for 1 year, I liked it that much that I stayed for 2 and a half years!
I’m glad I did really because here my life changed again...
My life massively changed for the better and if what I'm about to say didn’t happen, I wouldn’t be writing this blog!
So... I was in the Officers Mess bar at Mount Pleasant after just having a delicious dinner, we were having a few pre drinks before heading up to Timmys hangar to watch one of the local bands and I remember Kelly coming to the bar. I instantly fancied her and after fumbling around pretending I was on my phone, we started talking about life. I was telling her about my dissertation, which thinking back, must have bored the life out of her! I then introduced her to a drink we thought we’d made up called the ‘Vobro' which is basically Vodka and Iron Bru (so original) I think she was humouring me by saying how nice it was... We then all got in the minibus and went up to Timmys hangar and it was here that things started to get interesting between me and Kelly!
To cut a long story short, we started dating and after a year or so I proposed to her on an island in the Falklands called Pebble Island, on a beach called Stinker beach (I didn’t know it was called that at the time)
Then on June 10th 2017 we got married at Claines Church in Worcester.
This making me a military husband and giving me the drive to write this blog about my life...
So what can you expect from my blog?
Well it’s going to be all about my life married to somebody in the military, I’ll have the ups and downs, and loads of advice for the military husbands out there because there are more and more of us popping up.
There are loads of websites offering advice to military wives (because they’ve been around for longer) but I don’t feel there are many places for us husbands to go...
I hope you enjoy reading my blog and if you have any questions please do get in touch, I would love to hear from you!
Chris
