Mummy's back at work

So the time has come for Kelly to get back in green and head back to work!

Maternity leave and Covid Work From Home restrictions combined, has meant that she’s actually been at home with us for over 2 years! It's been amazing and also the longest time we’ve spent together in one period since we met!

You may have read my blog a while back about me giving up my radio career and becoming a full time stay at home dad... If you didn’t read it, you can catch it here

So when I decided to do that, I was expecting it to be pretty challenging and very tiring, I mean looking after small people is the hardest job in the world right!

HOWEVER because Kelly's been at home on maternity leave followed by WFH, it’s not actually been that bad at all because I’ve had her backup.

This week though, she went back to work and to top it off... She was working away for the week, so I was thrown in at the deep end with two little ones to look after all day and all night!

I’ve often heard military families with small children say how tough it is when the serving parent is away, but until now I’ve not experienced it myself.

Although Kelly wasn’t deployed to a war zone or anything else scary and although it was ONLY a week, she was still away and I was asked plenty of times “Where’s Mommy” which is really sad to hear! All I could say was, “she’s at work and will be home soon”

It’s not going to be the last time that Kelly gets sent away and it’s only going to get harder as the children grow up, but this week has shown that it’s not going to be that bad (fingers crossed).

I will say though, that this whole experience has made me really appreciate what Kelly does and I’ll never take it for granted ever again!

I'm not going to take all the credit though because whilst Kelly was away, I did have some help from my parents.

This was mainly because of my own work commitments...

I now have the perfect WFH job with Recruit For Spouses, as their Marketing and PR manager and I’m absolutely loving it. RFS massively understand the military family life and understand that things can change last minute.

I’ve also always admired the work that RFS do! They go above and beyond to help people, not only military spouses but anybody with a military connection. They’re far more than a ‘recruitment agency’ and I’m thrilled to be a part of their team.

On top of this, I now have my own little business called TKC -Totally Keen Creative. I produce and edit Podcasts for businesses, I create and edit audio for radio stations and I coach and mentor people within the creative industry.

I promise, I really did try to be a full time stay at home dad, but I guess I just enjoy working too much lol

Now with these jobs though, I get the best of both worlds!

So to finish... I’d just like to acknowledge all of the amazing military spouses & partners out there who’s serving partner gets sent away on a regular basis and for lengthy periods of time. I’m sure you get told this all the time, but you do an incredible job!
